ASSIGNMENT B : Production Research

Assignment B:Product Research

Questions:

1) Factors that make up the budget of radio advertisement campaign are depending on whether the voice is of a celebrity, the amount of skill and experience and the type of voice over session. Voice over artists in the UK are usually paid by the hour , known as a 'Basic Session Fee' which how much they are paid. And this is because the bigger and better the artist is the more expensive the radio advert is.If it as big celebrity then the session fees will become bigger as the producers of the radio advert would be having to pay them more because the famous celebrity would have more of an impact because people listening to the radio advert would be more attracted to the product being sold because of the significance of the celebrity doing the radio advert.Other factors include where and when the recording will be broadcast, the medium to be broadcast in and audience reach. In exchange for certain limited rights to the use of their voice, a 'buy-out' fee will be paid.If artists are asked to voice a cartoon in a radio advert they will be paid for the usage of their voice and this can be a big factor that makes up the budget for a radio advertisement campaign. When the commercial is to be broadcast affects how much it would cost. For example - if you were to broadcast an advert during day time where the audience figures are higher, it would cost more than if it were to be broadcast during a night time because there would be a lower audience figure. This makes the advert cost more because more people would be around to listen to a radio advert in the day time especially with people going to work or going places early in the morning and also because of the demand from loads of stations to have their radio adverts produced in the day time. Also for a good quality radio advertisement a good producer would be needed also with celebrities maybe included.

2) A music bed is the sound or music that is playing at the background of the advertisement to give it some effect.3 types of sound beds are, pastiche, jingles and stings. These are used for particular radio advertisements. For example a jingle would be used for a radio advert that was about christmas which obviously excites everyone and would catch their attention. This helps trigger memories for the listener and get them to be attracted to the radio advert and maybe think about buying the product that the radio advert is trying to sell.

3)The reason it costs money to use a pop song in a radio advert is because the song and sound being used is from somebody else's creation and it would be stealing if it was just simply taken because it is somebody else's work that is being used.Because of this the producers of the radio advert would have to pay the artist money to be aloud to use their songs in the radio advert.

4)There are a few differences between a production house and radio station. Some radio stations are small and have only a small amount of full time staff that work at the radio station, although a production house may have more staff, they may not be very experienced and the creators of the radio advert do not get and contact with the client.Producers from production houses can be away from the radio station and this means that the producers do not manage to relate to the radio commercials.

ASSIGNMENT TASK B2 : Style conventions and techniques worksheet

A    Briefly define the following conventions of music video in your words and the effect they may have on the audience:

Lyric interpretation:This is the convention that the visuals to a music video will match or interpret some of the lyrics of the song. Usually this means occasional words or key elements of the narrative. This can help the audience with what is going on in the music video but sometimes can make the music video boring and bland because some music videos may use lyric interpretation to show word for word what is going on.

Extending or consolidating song’s meaning: This is when a music video doesn't just simply interpret the lyrics, but adds content and meaning to the song. This can be that it adds more to the meaning of the song and makes it either more serious or makes it comical and this is usually presented in the way and style of the music video. This may make the audience think that the music video is fully serious and may react differently to it or the audience may take the music video in a comical and not serious way which could take the seriousness out of the song.

Focus on performer:A main convention of most music videos is that they focus on the artist or band, including lots of closeups and mid shots. This lets the audience know who is the main artist in the video and it gives and it shows clearly to the audience how the artist wants to portray themselves and using close ups and mid shots are the best way of doing that.

Lighting for mood:lighting and colour can be used in music video to create a bright happy atmosphere , a realistic everyday feel or a dark intense mood, depending on the song. This shows the audience the mood and atmosphere of the song and it indicates whether the song has a positive meaning or a negative meaning with the use of lighting for mood with dull and gloomy colours representing sadness and bright and colourful colours representing happiness.

Pace of cuts:Most mainstream pop videos do this. Not every shot will sync to the beat , but most videos attempt to match the pace of the music with the pace of cuts. This is often most obvious in the choruses. This gives the effect that the music video is in sync with the song and that the song is well organised but not all music video do this and sometimes the music video completely out of sync with the pace of cuts.

B     Write down the artist and title and provide a link to an example of a music video which shows the following:

special effects such as chroma key(green screen): Kanye Wests song "Gold Digger" involves use of a green screen in the background. The green screen ranges from different colours and is used to create atmosphere in the song.It uses bright colours to create a lively atmosphere and a positive mood.

Animation   Digital, stop-frame or  hand-drawn. Another type of effect: The Gorillaz song called "Feel Good Inc" consists of animation throughout the whole music video with animated characters shown speaking the lyrics of the song without the actual group members shown.

Reference to or includes another artist: Famous artist Mariah Carey's famous song "Obsessed" was directed at rapper Eminem portraying her opinion of how their relationship was and almost mocking Eminem and she is shown in the music video dressing up as Eminem whilst stalking and being obsessive over Mariah Carey. This gained a lot of attention as she openly exposed her and Eminem's relationship to the public and this sparked a huge outburst from Eminem who responded with his opinion of their relationship with his song "The Warning".

An artist miming and lip-syncing to a playback track: An example of an artist miming and lip-syncing to a playback track is rapper ASAP Rocky in his song "F**kin'Problems" where he shown along with featured rappers,Drake,2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar to be lip-syncing and miming whilst they are shown rapping.

Multi-mage( multiple images on screen at once): English rapper Example's song "Kickstarts" consists of multi imagery. This is shown at the start of the music video with to different images of feet stomping, some with shoes some without shoes.

Cutting to the beat: An example of cutting to the beat is singer Lady Gaga's song "Applause" where anytime their was a huge beat in the song, the music video would change and cut to the sound of the beat showing different images.

C     Briefly define the following styles of music video in your own words and link to an example of it being applied in an existing music video.

Narrative: A narrative is when the music video tells a story and shows exactly what the artist is talking about and it usually portrays something or sends a message to the audience,an example of this is singer Katy Perry's song "Thinking Of You".

Interpretive: Interpretive is when the music video uses lyrics to say was its happening in the video and example of this is singer Rebecca Black's song "Friday" as she says exactly what is going on in the music with her lyrics.

In concert or "as live": This is when the music video shows the artist or band performing in a concert an example of this is rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West's song "Ni**as In Paris" as for the music they are shown performing in a concert.

Impressionist: Impressionist is when the song is more about mood and atmosphere then meaning,an example of this is rapper TYGA's song "In This Thang" as it does not really have much of a direct meaning but it shows a lot about mood and atmosphere with its strange beat and imagery.

Surrealist: Surrealist is when the music video has strange and weird imagery and does not really connect with the song,an example of this is artist Martin Garrix's song called "Animals" as it does not have lyrics and the music video seems to be not what people would expect from that kind of song title.

Pastiche /homage: This is an affectionate or positive copy of or tribute to another  artist's work, a media genre or product like a TV programme or film.An example of this is rapper 2 Chainz's song "We Own It" that was made just for the film "Fast and Furious 6".

Parody: A parody is a music video making fun of another person an example of this is singer Mariah Carey's song "Obsessed" in which she made fun of fellow rapper Eminem.

Assignment Brief 2.1: 2. Undertake Research for an Assignment or Project

Assignment title: 2.1 Undertake Research for an assignment or project

For this assignment I will explain what a sitcom is and its patterns of consumption.A sitcom is short for situation comedy which revolves around a group either family or friends who deal with day to day problems and situations that relate to peoples real life situations and are portrayed in a comical fashion.

The most popular sitcom in the USA is The Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory is about a group of friends who are scientists and find themselves facing social problems. Sitcoms can also be cartoons and the most popular sitcom in the USA is Family Guy.

Family guy:

Family Guy was created in 1999 and is still around to this day. The creator of the cartoon sitcom is Seth MacFarlane. The Sitcom is about a stereotypical American family who live in the city of Quahog, Rhode Island. The family consists of the dad and mainly based character Peter Griffin with his wife Lois Griffin with their children Stewie Griffin, Chris Griffin and Meg Griffin, along with their talking dog Brian Griffin. Lot of Family guys humour comes from everyday problems and situations involving each member of the family and from family member usually Peter mentioned references that are quickly showed to the audience.

In terms of the family it is very unbalanced with characters being more important than others. The main character Peter is dim-witted and has not much sense of what is going on, with him usually resorting to drastic measures to accomplish things. His wife Lois is usually sensible but at times can act strange and can also be dim-witted at times. She usually is frustrated by the rest of the family's strange actions. The oldest child Chris, bares a huge resemblance to his father Peter of being dim-witted and not realising much of what is happening around him, Chris is bullied at school and goes to extreme measures at times to make friends which often backfire. The middle child Meg is the most irrelevant character of the family and is constantly teased by the rest of her family, mainly Peter. Meg is often depressed as she is often teased at school for being ugly which also results in her going to extreme measures to make friend which also usually backfire. The youngest child Stewie is most probably the smartest in the family even though he is only around one years old. Stewie has a strange posh English accent, with high level intelligence and uses high level of vocabulary whilst speaking to other people, he also is best friends with Brian and has a strange sexual orientation, which most likely shows that he is bisexual. For many seasons Stewie plotted to kill his mother Lois and had secret weapons in his room, he also had a time machine. The family pet dog Brian is also one of the smartest and has a high level of intelligence like Stewie. Brian in the show spends most of his time with Stewie but at times is seen at bars of clubs being drunk and talking to women.

The Sitcom is most likely for aged for teens and adults.

I think that for a sitcom whether it is a cartoon or not it must have a range of different characters with different personalities and each of them has to be in their own situations throughout and this is shown to be true when Catherine Seipp of the National Review Online described it as a "nasty but extremely funny" cartoon(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Guy#Reception_and_legacy). This links because to have a successful sitcom it usually has to involve some explicit things in a comical way.

Consumption: For a cartoon sitcom like Family Guy the age range of consumption is usually from teens to adults because of the humour and explicit imagery in the sitcom. This is because many teenagers like to relate to the characters of Family Guy especially Meg and Chris who deal with day to day situations just like many teens who watch the show. Adults are likely to watch the show as the show does have a good amount of adult humour and at times does reference back to the 1990's or 1980's with some of its jokes. Although some say that teens who watch Family Guy are most likely to misbehave in class because of how Family Guy usually portrays things to be chaotic and not in anyone's control."
'Family Guy' cartoon comedy Family Guy draws an audience of rule breakers or rebels who are 61% more likely to watch the show. Rebels don't like authority, rules or structure they deem unfair, and usually won't hesitate to make their feeling known with anger or sarcasm".

Most popular sitcoms in the USA and UK:

The Big Bang Theory:The Big Bang Theory is the most popular sitcom in the USA.The Big Bang Theory is about four scientists that have bad social skills and despite their intelligence they find it hard to deal with social problems. The main for four characters are Sheldon,Leonard,Howard and Raj.Each character has their own personality and had different relationships with one another.Sheldon can be seen as the main character,he has the highest IQ out of all of them and often uses this to ridicule others.Sheldon is often selfish and resorts to drastic measures to get what he wants which often leads to mixed reactions from the others.Dispite Sheldon's high intelligence he finds it hard to adapt socially and is often very socially awkward.Leonard is best friends with Sheldon and can be seen as the co-main character.Leonard can be seen as the only straight man out of the four with him being the least socially awkward out of them and having the best luck with women with him dating apartment neighbour Penny.Howard is most closest friends with Raj.Howard is not as socially awkward as Raj and believes that he can attract women, this is often not the case but during the later seasons he gets a girlfriend who then becomes his wife.Raj is often shy of women but still has better luck with women than Howard despite his lack of confidence.Tom Gliatto of People remarked of season 5, "It's bright and obvious as a cartoon yet written with a clean, precise patter of jokes. It's also very well cast"

The Inbetweeners:The Inbetweeners can be seen to be the most popular sitcom in the United Kingdom. The Inbetweeners shows some similarities compared to The Big Bang Theory as it is mainly based around four characters who struggle to fit in socially. The inbetweeners are a bunch of teenagers who find it hard to deal with school and are socially awkward amongst others. The main characters are Will,Simon,Neil and Jay.The character of neil narrates throughout the show and explains things through his perspective. Will is the smartest out of all of them but finds himself in situations due to peer pressure from the others and often ridicules the others with their plans fail.Simon is the most sociable out of the four and has the best luck with women but has problems maintaining relationships with girls.Neil is the most laid back of the group but seems to be not socially aware but along with Simon has the best luck with girls despite this.Jay is shown to be the most confident but it is shown that this is not the case and that he constantly lies about having sexual encounters with girls to make himself look cool when in reality he has the least amount of sexual encounters out of the four. The sitcom has received a good reception with good compliments from viewers, for example, Joe McNally writing for The independent said "exquisitely accurate dialogue, capturing the feel of adolescence perfectly"(The independent newspaper).

Situations in a Sitcom: Situations in a sitcom are usually in a few set setting throughout the season, this is proved to be true from source (http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/jul/29/american-sitcoms-cities-depict-new-york-state-mind) "Sitcoms are shot mostly indoors on standing sets, so the impression of an American city you receive from watching one is necessarily cerebral, detached, made up of talk. You can’t form your own ideas about how the place looks or feels; instead you’re gathering the ideas of others, of the people who are inside, talking."

Assignment Task B1 : Artist Presentation

Artist: TYGA

Song: Rack City

Style:The style of the song is interpretative and impressionist. It is interpretative because TYGA is more or less rapping about strippers who earn money at night strip clubs and a lot of the time you can see him rapping about what is happening in the strip club and it can be seen in the video. And it is has a impressionist style because it has the mood of a strip club of it being late at night with a lively mood and that is shown with the imagery in the music video with TYGA rapping with a lot of friends and girls around him at the strip club.

Conventions:Their are a few conventions used in the song. The song has a good amount of lyric interpretation as it says a lot about what is going on in the music video. The use of the word "Rack city" has a lot to do with the music video which is of TYGA at a strip club which some people refer to "Rack city" as a city full of strip clubs. Also the song lyrics involve things that usually happens at strip clubs, like money being thrown around and the club being full of people. The music video also does focus on TYGA a lot as he is the main performer with a lot of close of shots of him in the club and him rapping about what is happening in the club, this is done to make it obvious to the audience that he is the main performer and the artist who owns the song. The lighting in the song portrays the mood very well,it has a red lighting to the song which represents the lust of being at a strip club, with women dancing and stripping for money. It also creates a lively atmosphere for the song as TYGA is clearly showing that he enjoys going to strip clubs. It has a navy blue lighting for parts of the music video to show that it is a cool and chilled mood during the song.

Music Video Techniques:For parts of the song their is some lip syncing and mining when TYGA is rapping but it is not obvious as he is not rapping all the time and the times when he is shown rapping he is slightly blurred when showed rapping and their is a good use of special effects when the music video uses a insert shot when the camera shows around the city at night time to give the effect of a strip club being late at night to create a cool but lively atmosphere. The music video has a good amount of camera movement. It uses the pan camera movement at times when it surveys around the club in a vertical image and that is done to show how lively the club is and how appealing it is to so many people to give the impression that going to strip clubs late a night is normal and popular amongst people.

Song: Hookah

Style:The style of this song is interpretative and narrative as it is obvious what the lyrics of the song and representing in the video which is people meeting up to smoke. Also it shows the narration of TYGA walking in a jungle like scenery and a women also walking in the same jungle like scenery as if they walking to meet up with each other and it is shown that they see each other and go and smoke with a hookah.

Conventions:Their is a good use of video conventions in the song as the music video goes along with the lyrics well and portrays the message that the lyrics are saying.A constant lyric in the song is "Pass me the hookah" and a hookah is used to smoke either tobacco flavoured steam known as shisha, and this is shown almost through out the music as TYGA and featured rapper Young Thug are seen with many women around them all smoking hookahs. The music video focuses on both performers in the music video who are TYGA and Young Thug, especially when TYGA is walking and when Young Thug is rapping in the room where many women are with him smoking.Alot of the camera shots are mid shots of both artists being shown fully with TYGA being shown walking and then rapping and Young Thug being shown fully rapping.Their is a good amount of lighting and that portrays the mood of the song very well which is a lively mood with a positive vibe as the music video is in a bright jungle like scenery which gives the impression that it is a lively atmosphere which is almost party like.

Music Video Techniques:For most of the song the camera shot of TYGA and Young Thug is a medium camera shot, especially when TYGA is walking as his waste up is shown clearly in that part of the video. Also the music video sometimes cutter to the beat of the music.

Song:In This Thang
Style:I think that the style of the song is impressionist and surrealist as it has weird imagery and the music video is clearly more about mood then and atmosphere then any general meaning as it uses a lot of cutaways and bizarre images. Also their is not much of a narrative to the music video

Conventions:Their are a lot of conventions in the music video as it unusual to what TYGA would normally do.In this song TYGA does extend and consolidate the songs meaning and with the music video it clearly shows that.It does show that he's at a party but the images of the party extend the meaning of the song,it is almost as if TYGA who has a very close, close up of his face for almost all of the video is intoxicated and that is followed by bizarre imagery of people wearing masks that have facial expressions on them, including TYGA himself. Also their is strange imagery of dolls and people dancing but in a strange manner, and because the song also is shown in TYGAs point of view it can almost be said or assumed that he hallucinating because he is intoxicated. The music video focuses on TYGA for almost all of the view with the camera being close to his face whilst he is rapping and walking around. The lighting clearly portrays the state of TYGA and his music video. The music video has a almost toxic green colour to it as if to represent TYGA being in a hallucinated state also with images of  TYGA being seen in a double visioned fashion with at times it being sped up and then back to normal, which clearly shows the mood of the song which is a lively party but more of a hallucination and that shows that the mood is good but also bizarre and the party is of many emotions conjoined into one.

Music Video Techniques:The song is most a close up camera video of TYGA in what to be is him in a drunken or hallucinated state whilst walking around during a party. The music video uses many camera movements. The music video uses the pan camera shot in a vertical and horizontal view to represent that their is a lot of things going on at the party and also to represent TYGAs state of mind which is all over the place and full of different emotions and this is done because in a surreal music video like this their would be a lot of different camera views and turns because theirs a lot of things going on which people would deem to be unnatural. Also at the start of the music video it shows TYGA holding his head along with quick pan camera turns and sharp imagery to give the impression that he is hallucinating and not in his normal state.

Assignment Brief 29.A Music video-purposes

Promoting a single

Promoting a single is when most likely the best song from and album is taken and promoted as the lead song of the album which is done for promotional uses like digital download or when on tour a single can be performed for promotional use.

An example of promoting a single is chief keefs single called "I don't like". This is Chief keefs first single and one of his best songs which promoted his music a lot. This was promoted by a lot of thing such as other rappers doing their own remixed version of chief keefs song "I don't like". A single is usually the best song from a rappers album from chief keefs first album called "Finally Rich" three songs "I don't like", "Love Sosa" and "Hate Bein' Sober" were very successful being released as singles and arguably "I don't like" was Chief Keefs best single and from their he has been able to promote "I don't like" through concerts and through other rappers making their own remixed versions of the song which has caused a lot of their fans to follow Chief Keefs music. Also because Chief keefs other two singles from his "Finally Rich" album, "Love Sosa" and "Hate Bein' Sober were so successful, Chief Keef has managed to gain so much recognition as other rappers have done their own versions of the two other songs or have joined Chief Keef. Also it helps promote the single because in the song it has "I don't like" in the lyrics many times so it lets the audience know that is the name of the song.
Promoting a album
An album is many singles from an artist put into one cd and sold.Albums can be promoted by artists going on tour and performing different songs from the album they are soon to be releasing or on social media the front cover of the album can be shown before the song is played for promotional use and to show the viewer that the song belongs to an album that is soon to be released.

New rapper called Bobby Shmurda has promoted his new album called Hot N*gga. His recent song called Hot N*gga has promoted this album at the start of the music video when it flashes up with his name and then flashes up a few seconds later with the word Hot N*gga in flames and he says "Hot N*gga" many times, which gives of the obvious impression that he is promoting his new album which has been trending world wide. Another example of promoting and artists album is rappers Jay-Z and Kanye Wests famous song "N*ggas In Paris" which peaked at number 5 on the US hot 100 billboard. The song was part of both rappers albums and raised a huge boost in promoting each artists albums. They song was performed by them whilst on tour on many occasions and during one concert the song was performed 12 times in a row breaking a record. The song had 4 million sales in the US.

Increasing the profile of a artist

Increasing the profile of an artist is when the status of an up and coming artist is boosted up.This is usually occurs when a very famous artists includes an up and coming artist in one of their songs in their album and that song can give recognition to the up and coming artist. Also an artists profile can be increased if they are on television in a interview or maybe are in a movie that is being released.

An example of increasing the profile of a artist was when Kanye West made his own version of rapper Chief Keefs song "I don't like" which included many famous including Chief Keef himself with the chorus"I don't like" which showed that he was a big part of Kanye Wests remix, this helped boost the profile of Chief Keef as it became obvious that rappers such as Kanye West had a interest in Chief Keef and wanted to associate with him. Another example of promoting an artist is rapper T.I's song "No Mediocre" being remix with rappers Migos and female rapper Iggy Azalea. The original song only consists of T.I and Iggy Azalea but the remix involves both of them and rap group Migos. Although Iggy Azalea and Migos are well known they are still slightly rising up and being associated with a very famous rapper in T.I this raised their publicity in various ways and has helped boost their recognition as big name artists. Migos also have made music with famous rapper Drake in the song "Versace". This has boosted them and promoted them a lot as they worked with Drake who is now a big name and one of the most popular and noticeable rappers around. Iggy Azalea has also helped increase the profile of new up and coming artist Charli XCX with featuring her in Iggy Azaleas most famous and popular song "Fancy".Iggy Azaleas song "Fancy" had Charli XCX as the singer for the chorus m so fancy, you already know
I'm in the fast lane, from L.A. to Tokyo
I'm so fancy, can't you taste this gold?
Remember my name, 'bout to blow-oh-oh-oh many viewers and listeners were fond of.

Promoting a new artist

Promoting a new artist is when an artist that is either not known at all or not known to most people is included in something, usually a song made by a currently famous artist to help them get recognition A lot of the time the new artist either features in a famous artists song or the new artist makes a song and has other famous artists featured in it.

An example of promoting an artists being promoted is  the song "The Motto" by Drake who at the time was not as big of a rapper as he is now. The song included rappers Lil Wayne and Tyga who are both well known which helped boost the popularity of Drake. Another example of an artist being promoted is Charli XCX.Because Iggy Azalea featured her in the popular and well known song "Fancy" this has allowed Charli XCX to make one of her latest songs "Boom Clap" so successful as she is know recognised to be associated with big name rappers and artists such as Iggy Azalea. Another example of promoting a new artists is when very famous rapper 50 Cent was introduced in his song "In Da Club" back in 2003.This was because very famous rappers Eminem and Dr.Dre at the start of the music video are seen surgically working and creating a human, which that human is shown to be 50 Cent symbolising that these famous rappers are creating a new rapper to bring into the industry which promoted 50 Cent a lot because it meant that big name rappers like Dr.Dre and Eminem were willing to associate themselves with 50 Cent. The famous British TV show X Factor has helped promote many new artists who have gone on to have successful career's.An example is now very famous boy pop group "One Direction".Although each member started X Factor as a single act they were put together as a group and have earned a huge amount of success.Despite not actually winning the X Factor they have been signed to record labels and have gained a huge amount of publicity.

Promoting another media product

Promoting a media product is when in a music video another media product is mentioned or showed to the viewer to help sales for that companies product. Also because the artist is famous it will have a good impact on the sales of the media product because it will make the audience believe that if a famous artist is willing to use the media product that they are promoting then it must be good.

An example of promoting another media product is when rapper Meek Mill's song "Ima Boss" was included in basketball video game NBA2K13.The song was included in the game as a instrumental but gave the game a good amount of recognition as the rappers popular song was included into one of the worlds best selling video games. Also the old video game "Def Jam Fight for New York" promoted many rappers and the game itself as many rappers who were signed with Def Jam were included in the game. The game was a fighting game with two gangs aiming to take over New York City. In now very famous rapper Wiz Khalifa's fairly new and popular song "We Dem Boyz" he not only promotes his own song and album he also promotes 2 media gadgets. As soon as the music video starts it is showing Wiz Khalifa have a iPod in one of his hands and a beats pill on his table which is also promoted a apple product and a product made by fellow rapper Dr.Dre.

Showing a change in musical direction or image for an artist

The change of an artists music image or direction is when an artist makes a music video usually and completely changes the mood and maybe their look so that it is clear to the audience that they are taking a different approach to their music. This can be a completely different genre of music such as changing from hip hop to rock and this has to be shown clearly by the artist or band.

An example of a change in musical direction for an artist is when very famous rapper Snoop Dogg who was known for his rap music changed his name to "Snoop Lion" to change his music genre to reggie. Also a huge change in a artists song and image is singer Miley Cyrus. Miley was well known for being Disney character Hannah Montana and being very likable and child friendly, although recently she has scrapped that image and persona and gone for a wild and very strange type of approach which has been shown clearly in her most recent songs "We cant stop" and "Wrecking Ball". This change of image has made Miley Cyrus receive a huge amount of criticism and loss of fans.

Promotion of and synergy with another media product : Promotion of and synergy with another media product is when a song is released and is connected with another media product to promote the song as well as the product to increase income. For example through movies, the movie trailer can be a artists song which means that the movie gets promoted and so does the artist for making the song, especially if the song was made for that movie. Also media products like Beats headphones or the Beats pill can be used to promote a artists song as well as the product, for example their can be an advert of the Beats pill or Beats headphones being used and the music being played is music from a famous artists which would appeal to a lot of people because they would want high quality headphones to listen to high quality music from their favourite famous artists.

An example of promoting another media product is when famous rapper 2 Chainz song "We Own It" was the song featured in the movie "Fast And Furious 6" in 2013.This was also the case with very famous rapper Soulja Boy's famous song "Crank That" was remixed and used as the song for "Fast And Furious 4" back in 2009 and this helped promote the movie as many people were fond of what most likely is Soulja Boy's most famous and enjoyable song. With both "Fast And Furious" movies advertising rappers famous songs aswell as their own movie this would highly promote the rappers single as well as their own movie. Also famous rapper Wiz Khalifa's fairly new and popular song "We Dem Boyz" he not only promotes his own song and album he also promotes 2 media gadgets. As soon as the music video starts it is showing Wiz Khalifa have a iPod in one of his hands and a beats pill on his table which is also promoted a apple product and a product made by fellow rapper Dr.Dre. Also the Disney movie "Frozen" has the singer of its song Demi Lovato as part of the music video jumping from scenes in the movie to scenes of Demi Lovato singing, although Demi Lovatos appearance does not resemble the appearance of the princess in "Frozen" her and the movie both are promoted because the movie and herself are seen in the music video.

Increasing the income for the record company:
Increasing the income for a record company is when a artist is signed to a record company and brings in money through things like singles, albums or tours that goes towards themselves and the record label they are signed for. Also if a artists from a record label has their song included in a movie or in a advert on television the record label company will get a cut of the money that the artists has earned because the artist is signed to their label meaning that they have rights to get a percentage of what the artist will earn.

An example of increasing the income for a record company is famous rapper Rick Ross's record label called "Maybach Music Group" which includes famous rappers such as himself,Meek Mill,French Montana and Wale. For example Maybach Music Group rapper Wale made an album called "Ambition" which had 500,000 sales, and because he is signed to Rick Ross's record label therefor Rick Ross is able to take a percentage of the money earned from the album's sales, bringing income into the record label. In the song above called "Pandemonium" rappers signed to MMG Meek Mill,Wale and founder Rick Ross were all seen in a image of them sitting at a table which shows that rappers Meek Mill and Wale are associated to Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group record label.

Increasing the range of media artist is active in : Increasing the range of media artist is active in is when an artists is social able or promotes themselves on multiple media sites or products like twitter or youtube. Also if the artist is in movies or if they are on television sometimes in interviews then that can help increase the range of media they are active in.

An example of this is young pop singer Rebecca Black having a twitter account and a personal and verified youtube account called "Rebecca" so that she can upload videos to youtube and address things to her fans on a website which is heavily linked with media and is used by many people on a day to day basis https://twitter.com/MsRebeccaBlack .The Video above of Rebecca Blacks own verified youtube account is of her giving her thoughts and opinions and feedback on how her song "Friday" went and this helps increase the range of media that a artists uses and is active in because it means that she can use hr youtube channel which has over 1 million subscribers to talk and interact with her fans and that lets them know that she is still active and that their is other ways of getting in touch with her and interacting with her. Also her using the highly used social media site Twitter helps increase the range of media she is active in because she can tweet things out to fans and fans can follow her and she can tweet things and anytime which can show how active she is and her fans can tweet at her and she and retweet them which can show that she is active and reads her fans messages.

Sitcoms
