The Cruel Cut

The Cruel Cut
The Cruel cut is about female genital mutilation across countries in Africa to young females to keep virginity until marriage. The documentary is very effective as you hear the experiences of females who were given the cruel cut and the effects it had on them even to this day.You see their emotions as they speak about their back stories during their young childhood when they given the painful experience of genital mutilation.

They use techniques such as focusing on the females in the video and using images to explain the physical pain of the genital mutilation and they effects its caused on the women in their lives. With this it makes the audience empathize with the women in the video making the video very effective as it brings awareness to viewers. You see the young females emotions as they explain their horrific experiences and the sadness and pain it has caused them in their lives and it strikes the viewer because many people would want to put at stop to this as it is still going on to this day.

Personally I never knew of female genital mutilation but this documentary has helped me understand how serious it is in some parts of the world and why it should not happen as the pain and blood loss it brings to a lot of young females. From watching the documentary I would definitely want an end of genital mutilation towards females as I now know how much pain they go through because of this. From watching the documentary I was very alerted by the graphic explanations and imagery of how it is done and the effects it has. Also knowing that is only simply done to preserve virginity for marriage  disturbed me but at the same time made me aware that this happens around the world.I think that female genital mutilation should be stopped all around the world.

KONY 2012

KONY 2012

Kony 2012 by Jason Russell was an inspiring movement that warmed many peoples hearts including mine.It was made by Jason Russell to bring awareness to the world about Joseph Kony and his LRA group kidnapping kids and abusing them.Because this had been happening for 26 years people ignored this and the world did not know about what was going on in Africa. The documentary by Jason Russell reached over 100 millions views on youtube and this created a lot of awareness and created a lot of social action by raising funds. It was socially inspiring because he made those children who were deemed to be "invisible" become visible and with that he raised a large amount of money. He also managed to reach out to high elected people in the United States along with other world known celebrities.

I also think it was inspiring how an ordinary man made his voice heard to many people and managed to generate money and eventually managed to get a letter from the United States president Barack Obama saying that United States advisors were deployed in Uganda to help track down Kony, meaning that his goal to begin tracking down Kony was brought into action.

Personally I believe that it was inspirational and that it helped many people recognise issues within the world and I believe that Jason Russell did a good job of raising awareness about Joseph Kony and the LRA in Uganda.
